A locomotive with a story
The Iron Lion is more than a special livery on a BR189 locomotive. It represents the strength, reliability and endurance of European rail freight.
Day and night, in all weather conditions, freight locomotives connect ports, terminals and industrial centres across Europe. They keep goods moving, industries supplied and economies connected.
The lion reflects that strength and determination.
Its flowing mane represents railway lines, energy and the connections that form Europe's freight network. Together, these elements create a design that celebrates the industry we're proud to be part of.

Since 2001, Fleetshield has helped rail operators, leasing companies and manufacturers protect, transform and manage the appearance of their rolling stock.
What started 25 years ago has developed into a specialised approach to railway liveries, combining material knowledge, production expertise and professional installation.
Today, our work goes beyond giving trains and locomotives a new appearance.
A well-designed film system helps protect the underlying surface, supports maintenance and can make future livery changes easier. Particularly in the leasing market, where rolling stock may serve several operators throughout its operational life, this matters.

Bringing the Iron Lion to life
For our anniversary, we wanted to create something that would actually travel through the European railway network.
The Iron Lion livery brings together the visual identity of our anniversary with the technical expertise behind our daily work.
From preparing the design and producing the graphics to applying the film to the locomotive, the project reflects the craftsmanship and attention to detail that go into a professional railway livery.
And unlike a traditional anniversary celebration, this one won't stay in one place.
The Iron Lion is made to be seen on the tracks.
